How it Works
Selective alpha-1A adrenoreceptor antagonist — relaxes smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck specifically, with less cardiovascular (BP) effect than non-selective alpha-blockers.

Common Side Effects
Ejaculatory dysfunction (retrograde ejaculation — common), dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, rhinitis. Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS) with cataract surgery.
Safety Warnings
⚠️ IFIS: always inform ophthalmologist before cataract surgery — even if tamsulosin is stopped. Orthostatic hypotension especially with first dose. Avoid strong CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 inhibitors.
