What is Cortagen??
Cortagen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro, AEDP, molecular formula C17H27N5O8, MW 430.17 g/mol) is a synthetic tetrapeptide bioregulator from the Khavinson Cytogen family, developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It primarily targets cerebral cortex tissue through tissue-specific DNA promoter binding and nuclear gene expression modulation. Research in neural models demonstrates that Cortagen hyperpolarises neurons, reduces spontaneous firing, and exhibits neuroprotective and nerve-regenerative properties. Microarray studies in mouse heart tissue also identified significant gene expression changes – indicating secondary cardiovascular activity. Cortagen is distinct from Epithalon (a related tetrapeptide) in its amino acid composition and resulting tissue targeting specificity.
