What is Mesacol OD 1200mg (1X15) (MESALAZINE)?
5-aminosalicylate for ulcerative colitis (inducing and maintaining remission) and Crohn’s disease (colonic involvement). Acts locally in the colon to reduce inflammation.
How it Works
Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, leukocyte migration, and pro-inflammatory cytokine production locally in colonic mucosa. Free radical scavenging in gut epithelium.

Common Side Effects
GI (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain), headache, rash. Rare: nephrotoxicity (interstitial nephritis), hepatotoxicity, blood dyscrasias.
Safety Warnings
⚠️ Renal function monitoring required periodically (interstitial nephritis risk). Avoid if salicylate hypersensitivity. Different formulations target different colon segments — do not interchange. Mesalazine hypersensitivity causes paradoxical worsening of colitis.
