What is Herpiheal 250mg (VALACYCLOVIR)?
Prodrug of acyclovir with 3–5x better oral bioavailability. Treats HSV-1/2, herpes zoster (shingles), CMV prevention. Daily suppressive therapy reduces herpes transmission.
How it Works
Converted to acyclovir which inhibits viral DNA polymerase and acts as chain terminator. Active only in virus-infected cells — selective and safe.

Common Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Headache, nausea, abdominal pain. At high doses in immunocompromised: thrombotic microangiopathy (rare but serious).
Safety Warnings
⚠️ Dose adjustment in renal impairment. TTP/HUS risk at high doses in immunocompromised. Maintain adequate hydration. Transmission risk reduced but not eliminated with suppressive therapy.
