What is Folitrax 2.5mg (METHOTREXATE)?
Anchor DMARD for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis. First-line chemotherapy for certain cancers (ALL, NHL, breast, osteosarcoma). Ectopic pregnancy treatment at low doses.
How it Works
Folate antagonist — inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, reducing purine and thymidylate synthesis. At low rheumatological doses, adenosine-mediated anti-inflammatory effects predominate.

Common Side Effects
GI (nausea, mucositis — take folic acid), hepatotoxicity (especially with alcohol), pulmonary toxicity (pneumonitis), bone marrow suppression, teratogenicity.
Safety Warnings
⚠️ TERATOGENIC — contraindicated in pregnancy. Alcohol strictly prohibited. Folic acid 5mg weekly required. Avoid high-dose NSAIDs. Monitor CBC, LFTs, creatinine regularly.
