Anti-ischemic metabolic agent for angina pectoris — reduces angina frequency without affecting heart rate or blood pressure. Add-on when beta-blockers or nitrates are insufficient.
How it Works
Inhibits 3-ketoacyl CoA thiolase (long-chain fatty acid oxidation) — shifts cardiac energy metabolism from fatty acids to glucose. Glucose oxidation is more oxygen-efficient under ischemic conditions.
