What is Januvia 50mg (SITAGLIPTIN)?
DPP-4 inhibitor for type 2 diabetes — lowers blood glucose without hypoglycemia or weight gain. Well tolerated, suitable for elderly patients.
How it Works
Inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase-4, preventing degradation of incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP — increases insulin secretion and decreases glucagon in a glucose-dependent manner.

Common Side Effects
Upper respiratory infection, nasopharyngitis, headache. Rare: pancreatitis, severe joint pain, bullous pemphigoid.
Safety Warnings
⚠️ Dose reduction in renal impairment (eGFR under 45). Discontinue if pancreatitis suspected. Severe joint pain may be delayed onset. Heart failure hospitalization signal exists for DPP-4 inhibitor class.
