Erythropoietin (EPO) is a 165-amino acid glycoprotein hormone primarily produced by peritubular fibroblasts in renal cortex in response to hypoxia (HIF-1α pathway). It activates EPOR (erythropoietin receptor) on erythroid progenitor cells in bone marrow, triggering JAK2/STAT5 signalling to drive proliferation, differentiation, and survival of red blood cell precursors. EPO increases haemoglobin synthesis, red blood cell count, and oxygen-carrying capacity. Recombinant human EPO (rhEPO) is used in anaemia research, renal failure models, and as a reference compound for EPOR pharmacology.
Research Applications
Erythropoiesis Research
EPOR-JAK2/STAT5 signalling for red blood cell production studies
Anaemia Models
Renal failure, chemotherapy-induced, and chronic disease anaemia research
Haematology
Haemoglobin synthesis, reticulocyte production, and haematocrit studies
Tissue Protection
Non-haematopoietic EPOR signalling — neuroprotection and cardioprotection
HIF-1α Research
EPOR as downstream readout for hypoxia-inducible factor pathway research
Recombinant human EPO (rhEPO) activates EPOR receptors on erythroid progenitors to drive red blood cell production, haemoglobin synthesis, and haematocrit elevation. In research it is used for anaemia models, EPOR pharmacology, haematology studies, and investigation of non-haematopoietic EPOR signalling in neural and cardiac tissue.
How is EPO reconstituted?
Add 1–2mL bacteriostatic water to the lyophilized EPO vial, directing water down the inner wall. Swirl very gently — EPO is a large glycoprotein and mechanical stress can cause aggregation. Do not shake. Store reconstituted at 2–8°C for 7–14 days.
What purity is QSC EPO?
QSC recombinant EPO is ≥99% HPLC pure with MS-confirmed glycoprotein identity on every batch. COA verifiable at verify.janoshik.com.
Research Use Only: All QSC compounds are sold strictly for laboratory research purposes only. Not for human consumption, veterinary use, or any other application. Researchers are responsible for compliance with local regulations.
